I’ve always liked reptiles. I like their variegated skin and strange slitty eyes. I was once tempted to buy an otherwise unsuitable house just because it had geckos climbing up the walls. (Did you know that geckos don’t have eyelids — just a transparent membrane that they lick to keep clean?)
From an artistic point of view, they’re a delight to draw because they let me indulge my love of fine detail. I’m not sure if the resolution here is good enough for you to see that I’ve drawn every single scale and knobble on this little creature’s skin.
Graphite and coloured pencils on paper; limited edition of fifty prints.
Have you thought of moving to Australia. We used to have blue tongue lizards in our drains and geckos abound everywhere.

Yes, but you also have all manner of scary (and poisonous) spiders — probably too many for the lizards and geckos to eat.

Actually there are only 2 or 3 varieties of poisonous spider, however we do have 17 of the top 20 most poisonous snakes to make up for it. Oh: and don’t forget about the jellyfish, sharks, and crocodiles.
What’s not to love?
